Icarus-- was the son of Daedalus who built the labyrinth to house the savage Minotaur in Crete. When King Minos of Crete imprisoned Daedalus and Icarus in the laybrinth, Daedalus made wings of wax and feathers to allow them to fly to safety. It worked. They had flown as far as Samos when Icarus soared towards the sun, ignoring his father's warnings beforehand. The sun's heat melted the wax in his wings and he, Icarus, plunged into the sea and drowned. Thereafter, the sea was named the Icarian sea. The word "Icarian" was also from him, which means "of bud vaunting imaginiation."
